Things to do in Key West
The island has a rich history and there are plenty of museums to visit, alone or with your family. You could take a ride on one of the many tour trains that go up and down the island. The conductor will be glad to describe the many wonderful things that the island has to offer. When you get tired of driving from beach to beach, take a cruise out to sea where you will be able to see the island from a different and entirely beautiful perspective. Key West waters are magical. You will not want to leave without taking a snorkeling adventure in the reef. If you do not have the stomach for snorkeling, at least take a ride in one of the many glass bottom boats so you can take a look at the reef without getting in the water.
Key West Lodging
There plenty of places to stay on this beautiful island, you can book rooms in guesthouses, or stay in a cozy bed and breakfast. If you have more money to spare you can spend a week or two on a beach hotel, or resort. There are plenty of vacation properties that offer great Key West vacation packages to singles, couples, and families. There are also camping spots and RV spots. There are many packaged vacation options available, be sure and check out all of them to decide which one is best for you and your family.
Key West Transportation
The massive highway, U.S 1, links the entire chain of islands starting from Key Largo to Key West. If you are planning a visit to Key West, you can fly into Miami and take U.S. 1, the overseas highway, all the way down the Florida Keys island chain to Key West. From Miami airport, you should reach the upper keys within an hour by shuttle bus. On the other hand, you can rent your own car.
If you are feeling adventurous, you can take a small plane chartered by private airlines to the middle of the island chain where you can travel to your final destination by shuttle bus, taxis, or a rental car. You can also choose to fly directly to Key West International airport via any airlines hosted by Florida cities. If you choose to drive from Miami all the way through the islands to Key West on U.S. 1, the entire trip without stops would take you about four and a half hours.
